Deciding to run for class representative at the last minute, I knew the odds were against me. Despite expectations that I might fall short, I secured the role and embraced the challenge. Now, as my term comes to an end, I look back with pride on how I made the most of this opportunity, accomplishing meaningful work and leaving a positive impact on our class.

Getting the Job
When I first arrived at Andover, running for a role in student council was the last thing on my mind. I initially decided to run for dorm representative at the encouragement of my friends, who thought I’d be great at it. Despite my efforts, I lost that election, which led me to believe I had little to no chance of winning if I were to try for class representative. However, my friends didn’t give up on me, repeatedly telling me I’d make a good rep. Their support convinced me to go for it, and I decided to campaign hard, doing my best to hear everyone out and prepare myself for the role. On the day of the speeches, I delivered mine with confidence and, to my surprise, won the position of class representative.

I organized monthly munches to foster a stronger sense of community, took charge of consulting on prices to keep our events within budget, and assembled teams of students to work on various projects, staying true to my promise of hearing everyone out. At town hall meetings, I consistently advocated for my classmates, voicing their concerns and pushing for changes that would benefit us all. My goal was to serve not just as a leader, but as a true representative of our collective voice, and I’m proud of the positive impact we made together.

In the re-election campaign for the 2024-2025 term, I meticulously planned to make it an even more impactful year. I campaigned hard on social media, aiming to reach as many of my classmates as possible. However, several factors contributed to my loss in the final round of voting. The absence of a mandatory speech from the candidates, my failure to be transparent about my accomplishments during the past year, and the lack of an in-person campaign all played a part in my defeat. Despite losing the popular vote, I’m not discouraged. I’m coming back stronger next year, determined to correct all of my previous mistakes both in the role and during the campaign. I’ve learned valuable lessons, and I’m ready to apply them to ensure I can once again serve as a true representative of our class.
